Aromatherapy For Lovers of the Garden, Part 2

Eucalyptus
The following is an alphabetical reference of some common essential oils and their professed healing and restorative properties. All can be enjoyed in a bath, used diluted with a base oil for a massage or placed in an aroma lamp or diffuser.  If you are pregnant, epileptic or have a chronic illness, it’s best to consult a physician before using any essential oil:



  • Chamomile – Calming, anti-inflammatory effect; soothes stomach ailments, burns, menstrual and menopausal problems Can be sipped as a relaxing bedtime tea.
  • Clary Sage – Eases menstrual and intestinal cramps and PMS, reduces hot flashes; rejuvenates the spirit, lifts depression.
  • Eucalyptus – Refreshing, lifts spirits. Anti-inflammatory properties helpful for flu and respiratory infections; reduces fever.
  • Hyssop – Eases cough and congestion; lowers blood pressure; clears acne; increases concentration.
  • Lavender – Relaxing, conducive to good night’s sleep; antiseptic for wounds and burns; curbs irritability; helpful for headaches and digestive ad urinary problems. Excellent all-around oil.
  • Marjoram – Relieves respiratory illnesses, headaches and constipation; calms anxiety, soothes muscle aches.
  • Orange – Uplifting and soothing to the nervous system; relieves stress and tension. Provides energy, stimulates digestion.
  • Peppermint – Refreshes the body; soothes tired feet; stimulates metabolism; relieves headaches, nausea and sunburn. Vapors open nasal passages.
  • Rosemary – Purifies, may reduce cellulite; improves circulation and mental clarity; prevents dandruff; relieves headaches, colds and flu.
  • Ylang-Ylang – Mood uplifting, reduces frustration and irritability; rejuvenates skin; acts as an aphrodisiac; promotes restful sleep.
